Fashion Faces

…I’m a writer (ZOOT, Harper’s BAZAAR Russia etc) and I do my own photography (VOGUE Italia street-style vs runway etc). It always takes a while to explain who I am because I just enjoy doing too many things. I’m one of those people. I write about things I care about, like the importance of our health and the health of our planet here, as well as things I enjoy like food, travel, music, fashion and film here, I’m a visiting university lecturer on the subjects of fashion/lifestyle journalism and social media for journalists. I teach businesses how to use social media how to gain clientele. I am currently taking my travel, food, ex-pr skills and contacts into a new project I’ll reveal later…

Sarah Harris. Features writer of Vogue UK. A natural beauty with personality to match. Of all the people at Vogue House, I’ve heard the best words about her. Always lovely when I run into her. Always effortlessly chic.

Anna Trevelyan. Lady Gaga’s stylist. I love the story where Lady Gaga wins a British Fashion Award and tweets Anna: “we did it bitch!” only she tweeted the wrong Anna…she tweeted Anna Wintour. Anyway, this Anna styles Jesse J and many others. I dare say she’s even responsible for Gaga’s fame…since the lady was just another pop artist before Anna came on the horizon. You’ll say it was Nicola Formichetti who styled Gaga in raw meat for VOGUE Hommes Japan and sling-shot her to fame and you would be right, but his protege Anna undoubtedly played the key role, as she remains Gaga’s #1 gal pal. I suspect Anna is responsible for Jesse J’s break too, since Jesse saw some struggle of her own, but I won’t speculate…although I suppose I already have. I hear Jesse got her break after she put her efforts into social media…and it’s her many many online hits that won her the attention of Universal, who told me in person they track social media for promising artists. By the way Universal is also Gaga’s label. Anyway - Anna, you kick some serious ass. I’d say you have the power to turn a singer into a celebrity.

Yvan Rodic AKA Facehunter. My street style husband. A lover not a fighter. Some of you ladies be hatin’ on charmer Yvan…but really, don’t we all just want to be him? Travelling the globe and spreading the love? [Wink]. Speaking of which, I teasingly call him Streetwalker and he doesn’t get it. Anyway…if there was a movie about world’s fashion weeks he would be an irreplaceable character, so lets appreciate Yvan just the way he is. If he’s not looking at you when speaking to you, it’s because it’s his job to Facehunt the crowd, I have the same “sickness” during Fashion Week. I asked him once “Don’t you get bored of doing the same thing ALL the time? Tired of travelling so much?” He said - no, and thought I was weird for asking. He does get tired of course, but the man loves what he does and that’s what keeps him going and going and going…he’s always going… ✈

Susie Bubble. When they say Fashion Blogger…this is who they should be referring to. Susie is a fantastic writer. Why should blogs lack great writing just because they’re blogs? If you’re an aspiring fashion writer, I say - read her blog. Learn how to write the way she writes, with intelligence and in-depth knowledge of the brands she’s describing as well as design, techniques, styling etc.

Japanese style writer Yu Masui is someone I’m always looking forward to spotting for street style. One of the most exciting dressers in fashion Yu’s looks are always cutting edge and lots of fun.

Legendary Suzy Menkes. OBE and fashion editor of The International Herald Tribune in Paris. Fashion writer since 1988. But enough of that, that’s what Wiki is for. For the rest of us, let’s talk about the hair…love it or hate it, she’s never seen without her signature (now known as) Snooki poof…it’s actually her way of looking polished. Suzy’s not one for interviews with just anyone. If you’ve ever wondered why some fashion heavyweights are so snobby, it’s because they’re tired. Tired of being stopped every step from and to shows to give interviews, pose for photos and shake hands, tired of 14 year-old-bloggers and posers trying to weasel their way in on their hard earned front row seats. You would be too. Anyway, one to read, honour and respect that she’s still out there on the front lines.

Justin Smith Esquire - milliner. Said the only reason he was posing for me here was because I was from Vogue Italia. Well cheers. Now you’re here Justin, all because my friend the fashion writer Lisa Jordan said: “Oh I love Justin Smith Esquire” when she was flicking through my fashion week photos. You sure can wear the s out of that denim Justin. Nice hat too ;)

Melanie Rickey has a blog called “Fashion Editor at Large” and of course she is the Fashion Editor at Large of Grazia magazine. I stopped her for a photo when I spotted a pair of Maria Grachvogel’s “magic pants” I aspire to own a pair one day as they slim the thighs and lengthen the leg, plus each print is a work of art. Anyway, Melanie looked stunning in them and complimented me on spotting the brand, but how could I not? Google Melanie’s blog, she’s very interesting and a lovely person.
